I guess Maybelline is the only brand in India right now which has maintained its drugstore prices and is also continuously evolving itself with regular new launches every few months.
When Maybelline announced the launch of these Velvet Matte Lipsticks recently, I was super duper excited because as you all know I am a matte lippie addict. Anything that says Matte, I’m sold.
Let’s see whether these fared well and lived upto the high expectations I had with these ones.

Price: Rs. 475/-
Packaging: is similar to the lip polishes launched last year (read review here ) except that the caps of these velvet mattes are matte black in color. I like the packaging, as its see through and you know the quantity left. Only qualm is that all the details are mentioned on the outer packaging and once you tear it off, it’s a plain tube. I would have liked the deets printed on the product tube itself.
Shade: these are available in 7 shades I guess and all the shades are in range of pinks and reds only. MAT 10 is a pinkish purple shade. Absolutely fall appropriate.
First of all don’t mistake these to be matte. Though named velvet matte, these lipsticks are nowhere matte. If you expect these to me matte, you’ll be highly disappointed but if you just think these to be liquid lip creams, you’ll love these.
Let me explain. Texture wise this is a nice pigmented liquidish creamy lip color which in no ways would dry out the lips or make them feel dehydrated, unlike the Lakme’s latest launch- lip pouts which are mattest mattes. (read review of Lakme Lip pout here ).
This velvet matte lipstick has perfect consistency and is slightly thicker and softer than the earlier lip polishes. These are not glossy but yes creamy. Spreads well onto the lips and being highly pigmented, covers up lips well in 1 swipe itself.
Upon application, this does not feel heavy at all and seems super comfortable to wear. Perfect creamy lip creams for upcoming winters when mattes do get pretty difficult to wear.
Being creamy, it does transfer onto everything it comes in contact with. Does not settle into lip lines and gives lips a fuller look. Once applied, it stays put for around 3-4 hours with min. snacking in between but one full meal and its absolutely gone. Does not leave any heavy stain as such.
1. Nice easy to use packaging
2. Pocket friendly
3. Comfortable to wear
4. Does not dry out the lips
5. Easy to apply
6. Does not settle into fine lines
Not So Best Features:
1. is definitely not matte
2. transfers a lot
3. does not stays beyond 3-4 hrs
Do I Recommend: Ummmmm! Not a must have but if you are looking for some comfortable formula to wear for the upcoming winter season, you should give this range a try but if you’re a matte lover, then don’t go by the name as its not matte at all.
